Today begins my 30 day countdown to Valentine’s Day. ❤️ Valentine’s Day is known as a day for love but it also has a history that is steeped in darkness.
Ancient Rome was full of mysogynistic men. They celebrated by sacrificing animals and whipping women with the hides! 🐐Young women lined up for this ritual believing they would be made fertile. 👼🏾
To add insult to injury (pun intended), the women’s names would be added to a jar and pulled by the man they would hook up with for a couple of days. If they liked each other they got to hang out longer. Sound familiar? Yep, that’s how it was done before Tinder and Bumble!
Could this dark and sorted past be the reason men will spend the rest of eternity trying to make up for the acts of their forefathers?
Fast forward to today...millions of people in the United States celebrate Valentine’s Day. Not only are gifts exchanged between lovers, but also between parents and children, students and teachers, employers and employees (check with HR first before you do this!).
